About
Where accuracy meets camaraderie
Discover the heart of South Australian target pistol shooting
The South Australian Target Pistol League (SATPL) serves as a dynamic network for target pistol clubs and their members throughout South Australia.
Our aim is to empower shooting clubs by assisting them in expanding their membership, boosting their funding, and enhancing their operational success.
How we operate
We promote and support the sport of target pistol shooting. We cater to all skill levels and ensure everyone feels at home in our community.
Our clubs are incorporated entities under the Incorporated Associations Act 1985, operating independently while adhering to the Firearms Act and other relevant regulations. This structure allows us to provide strategic oversight, legislative advocacy, and valuable resources to our member clubs without interfering with their day-to-day operations.

Our story
Since 1969, the SATPL has been at the forefront of promoting target pistol shooting across South Australia. On February 19, 1969, representatives from several key clubs came together to officially form the SATPL, united by a shared passion for the sport.
-
By March 1969, the League had formalised its constitution and designed an official badge. During this period, SATPL established itself as a noteworthy alternative pistol shooting association, offering clubs a cost-effective and appealing new option. Our founding clubs – including Tea Tree Gully Pistol Club, South Australian Police Pistol Club, and Murray Bridge Pistol Club, among others – played a crucial role in shaping the early direction of the league.
From its inception, the SATPL worked tirelessly to organise competitions and events that fostered a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition. These early efforts helped attract new members and clubs, reflecting a growing interest in the sport throughout South Australia.
Today, the SATPL is proud to uphold the legacy of its founding members by continuing to promote safety, sportsmanship, and excellence in target pistol shooting. We remain dedicated to supporting shooters of all skill levels, ensuring the sport thrives for future generations.

Our SATPL Committee through the decades
Since our founding in 1969, the Club has been shaped by a dedicated group of committee members. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who have served, particularly those in leadership roles, for their time, energy, and commitment. Their contributions have played a vital part in our continued growth and success.
