At Waikerie Firearms Club, we offer two categories of probationary membership to accommodate individuals from a range of backgrounds:

  • Experienced shooters: If you are transferring from another club and already possess an H-class firearms license, we welcome you to continue your passion for shooting with us.

  • New or aspiring shooters: For beginners or those with shooting experience but who do not currently hold an H-class firearms license, we provide a supportive environment to help you get started and grow your skills.

Our story

The Waikerie Firearms Club has a rich history that spans over 35 years, reflecting its passionate commitment to the sport of shooting and its continued legacy of fostering a strong, safe, and engaging community.

Initially established with two shooting ranges, the club introduced air pistol shooting at the local scout hall. Enthusiasts gathered on Wednesday nights, utilising portable target frames to practice and improve their skills.

Recognising the need for a live shooting facility, members took the initiative to transform an unused sand quarry into a fully functional live shooting range. This ambitious project involved constructing target frames and shooting bays, providing members with exceptional training facilities to develop their proficiency in live fire disciplines.

The 1990s marked a golden era for the club, as pistol shooting surged in popularity amongst the local community. Membership numbers peaked, climbing to over 40 active participants and fostering a dynamic atmosphere of camaraderie and shared passion for the sport. It was during this vibrant time that the club made the significant decision to expand its facilities to accommodate its growing community.

The members of the Waikerie Firearms Club voted to construct an air pistol range and adjoining clubrooms near the live shooting range. This resulted in the erection of a dedicated shed, designed to house both the air range and multipurpose clubrooms. These new facilities became more than just functional spaces; they transformed into a hub for club meetings, social functions, and important gatherings for members to engage with one another and strengthen their shared sense of community.
