Burra Pistol Club
Welcome from the President
Welcome to the Burra Pistol Club.
As President, I’m proud to lead a club that blends sporting passion with a strong sense of community and tradition. Together with our dedicated Secretary, Kevin Wallis, and a committed group of volunteers and members, we strive to create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for everyone — whether you're an experienced shooter or picking up a pistol for the very first time.
Our club’s strength lies not only in its excellent facilities and competitive opportunities, but in the spirit of camaraderie that runs through everything we do. Set against the striking backdrop of Burra’s historic townscape and rolling hills, the Burra Pistol Club is more than a place to shoot — it’s a place to connect, learn, and enjoy the sport in the company of supportive peers.
We are proudly affiliated with the South Australian Target Pistol League, which keeps us connected to the broader shooting community and provides pathways for competition and skill development. Whether you’re looking to compete, practice, or simply try something new in a welcoming setting, we’d love to hear from you.
I invite you to explore what we offer — and if you’re ever in the area, don’t hesitate to reach out or pay us a visit. There’s something truly special about shooting sports in Burra, and we’d be thrilled to share it with you.

Our story
Tucked away in the heart of South Australia’s mid-north, the Burra Pistol Club stands as a proud symbol of local resilience, camaraderie, and a shared passion for shooting sports. Located in the heritage-rich town of Burra, our club is not just a venue for target practice — it’s a place where history, community spirit, and sporting excellence intersect.
The story of the Burra Pistol Club begins in the early 1970s, rooted in the legacy of another beloved local institution — the Burra Small Bore Rifle Club. For many years, the rifle club had been a hub for local shooting enthusiasts. However, in 1970, the need for residential development in the area saw the club's original range closed and its members displaced. Rather than allowing this change to mark the end of shooting sports in the town, the community rallied together to preserve the traditions and skills that had brought them together.
With characteristic determination, a group of dedicated members and supporters established a new home for their shared interest. In 1976, the remaining assets of the Burra Small Bore Rifle Club were formally transferred to what would become the Burra Pistol Club — breathing new life into a proud tradition and opening the door to a wider range of shooting disciplines.
From these humble beginnings, the Burra Pistol Club has grown into a dynamic and inclusive sporting community, welcoming members of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. We’ve built a reputation not only for our safe and professional approach to pistol shooting, but also for the genuine friendships and mentorships that form within our ranks.
Today, our club continues to thrive — thanks to the hard work of our members and the enduring values of sportsmanship, responsibility, and respect that underpin everything we do. Whether you're a seasoned shooter or simply curious to learn more, we invite you to be part of our story — one that began over 40 years ago and continues to evolve with each new generation of enthusiasts.
